Description

The City Beautiful Commission sponsored a contest to create a cartoon character and slogan to promote the Commission’s anti-litter campaign. Seven-year-old, second-grader, Stephen Hessler won the City Beautiful Commission’s anti-litter contest. The contest was open to children in first through sixth grades. Hessler’s rabbit and slogan, “Litter-ly speaking, I’m duti-ful, Keeping Memphis Beautiful”, were voted as the top entry. Mrs. William J. Johnson of the City Beautiful Commission presented Hessler with a $25 bond as his award.
