Subject

Description

In this letter from Liz to Avery, we see that Liz is concerned about current events in America. The internal strife of the time is enough that she is afraid of another Civil War. She is ready to pack up and take her children to Canada to keep them from experiencing a war. She tells Avery what she experienced watching the young soldiers heading off to war and not coming back. She is sure to let Avery know that he is as much in her thoughts as Rivers who was also away at school with Avery. She wants to make sure her sons have a future. She wants them to be a part of the future America, but she also realizes that if they choose to stay in America then that is their choice. As a woman of her time, she would have been the first teacher that her boys had and thus would have been preparing them for a bright future long before they headed off to school.
