Letter to Liz from Minor

Title

Letter to Liz from Minor

Subject

Domesticity

Description

Minor wrote this letter to Liz while they were apart. Liz is in St. Louis and Minor is in Memphis. He updates Lis on the health of Estelle. In her letter of September 3, there was mention of issues with an Irish maid. Minor doesn’t trust the Irish saying they are “treacherous” and “bullies.” He says, “I doubt if she would have attempted it if I had been there to make the settlement.” This tells us that Minor was more in charge of household legalities than Liz. While Liz was very involved in her sons’ lives, a legal issue such as a lawsuit was outside of her domestic realm.
