Subject

Description

This Article is about Maxine Smith and her fight in the civil rights movement. It explains how she is well known for her perseverance in the city of Memphis for equal rights. It elaborates this to point out that her first name is all that is needed when discussing the civil rights movement in Memphis and everyone knows who is being discussed. She was executive secretary for the NAACP and was on the school board during the time of integration. Describing the ways in which she contributed to the civil rights movement is being a spokes woman, using her skills to be continuously heard over the years. The article tells of her charm and her versatility both in a public and at home, expressing that she could both handle herself in a debate and be one of the common people of the city. In the final paragraph the article commends Maxine for her contributions to the community and the fact that she will probably never be commended fully for all that she has done because she was so ahead of the curve in Memphis.
