Letter of July 18, 1874 – Letter from Lee to Liz

Title

Letter of July 18, 1874 – Letter from Lee to Liz

Subject

Domesticity

Description

In this letter Lee Meriweather writes to his mother Liz begging for forgiveness for an offense he committed. We aren’t privy to exactly what Lee did, but we know it was something he regretted if only because it broke his mother’s heart. This shows us the prominence that Liz had her sons’ lives. He refers to his mother as “Fair Godess” thus he is putting her on a pedestal.
